Experimental Research on the Cutting of Metal Materials by Electrical Discharge Machining with Contact Breaking with Metal Band as Transfer Object

2020

The scientific paper presents practical research carried out by a mixed team of Romanian researchers from universities and the business environment. The research consists in applying the process of cutting metallic materials through electrical discharge machining with contact breaking using a metal band as a transfer object. The research was implemented with the help of a specially designed installation in the laboratory and subsequently all the necessary steps were taken to obtain the patent for it. Various metallic materials were cut using this process, but first of all, high alloy steels. In the global research conducted by the authors, active experimental programs and classic experiment…

Cultural self-perceptions of German sport organizations in an intersectoral comparison

2012

This paper addresses the question as to how far cultures of sport organizations reflect the business environment and sectoral paradigms they are in. In general, the organization of sport can be assigned to the three economic sectors (non-profit, for-profit, state). Within the theories about organizations, the differences between these economic sectors are stressed time and again. It can be assumed that sport organizations' cultures differ depending on their affiliation to a specific economic sector. In this study, cultural self-perceptions of managers of sport organizations in Germany in the different economic sectors were assessed using a standardized questionnaire. In order to answer the …

Repercussions of Economic and Social Factors on Pension Systems

2013

Abstract Economic and social developments in recent years have left serious marks on pension systems. As forecasts for the following period are bleak, the need for uniting the efforts of public authorities with those of the business environment, research institutes and the academic community in order to identify viable solutions for both the present and the future, becomes increasingly obvious. Together they can identify remedies and contribute to the popularization of a problem whose consequences, once known, can be counteracted. The paper drafted, by studying the literature, confronts a number of common issues faced by pension systems in the current period and emphasizes the possibility o…

Management Control Systems and ISO Certification as Resources to Enhance Internationalization and Their Effect on Organizational Performance

2012

There has been a general consensus in recent literature that internationalization is a key success factor in the competitive business environment we now live in. Using a sample of Spanish agri-food companies, the main objective of this research is to determine the linkage of Management Control Systems (MCS), ISO certifications, internationalization and performance. The results obtained reveal, as expected, that internationalization has a direct and positive relationship with organizational performance. In addition, we find that both the use of MCS and the deployment of ISO certification positively influence companies' level of internationalization. Nevertheless, our findings clearly indicat…

The effects of fiscal policy shocks on the business environment

2021

Fiscal policy influences economic conditions through public spending and taxes, generating positive or negative impulses, both on short and long term. The present research focuses on analysing the effects of the discretionary changes in the fiscal policy in seven post-communist countries of the European Union during the period 2000–2018. The autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) has been applied in order to obtain the convergence rates to equilibrium with a clear analysis of the periods needed to achieve the long-run fiscal sustainability. Also, the error correction vector model (VECM), which is based on the autoregressive vector (VAR) model, has been used in the second part of the an…

Towards networked R&D management: the R&D approach of Sonera Corporation as an example

2004

In this paper the authors delineate the challenges of a dynamic environment to R&D management. The authors build on most recent ideas, such as the dynamic capability view of the firm, as strategic foundation for modern R&D management. Collaboration is emphasized as a meta-capability for innovation. These ideas are merged into a ‘Networked R&D Management’ approach that emphasizes internal and external collaboration networks as critical for companies operating in a dynamic business environment. The approach is illustrated with ICT industry as an example. The implementation of Networked R&D Management is reflected in the illustrative case discussion of R&D management of Sonera Corporation. 1

When industry and academia meet: the development of a robotized semiautomatic motorcycle transmission

2017

Abstract The development of the business - industry environment is unconceivable without the involvement of academia. On one hand, the universities can provide new perspectives and know-how which can be further translated into exquisite products and services for companies. On the other hand, the business environment can raise practical problems and challenges for academia, providing in the same time material support for finding solutions to these problems. This paper presents a successful partnership between business and academia materialized in the development of a robotized semiautomatic motorcycle transmission. Since the solutions existing on the market did not meet the specific requirem…

Decoding the Japanese Lean Production System according to a Viable Systems Perspective

2012

The increase in the complexity and variability of the business environment, due to constant and rapid changes in markets, calls for more flexible and effective production systems. Of the most valuable production systems, the Japanese lean production system (LPS) is the best known and studied, but is still not the most widely applied with success outside Japan. The reason for the low level of success of lean production outside its native country is the lack of understanding of the strong interactions which hold between enterprises and business systems. In order to fill this gap in our knowledge, we investigate the systemic interactions according to the Viable System View. To develop our anal…
